6 Essential Tips for Beginners
February, 2021
1) TROUSERS 👖To begin with, jeans, jogging bottoms or fitness leggings will suffice. Once you’re addicted, we recommend you invest in some jodphurs.
2) GLOVES 🧤 Specialist riding gloves are ideal for preventing sore fingers but to begin with any kind of thin, material glove will help you out 😉
3) HAT Safety hats are essential. To get you started, we have a wide selection of approved safety skull caps to hire. DO NOT buy a second hand riding hat. ALWAYS go to an approved Tack Store and get a hat fitted. They’re not cheap but you only have 1 head and it’s precious.
4) BOOTS 🥾 Wear a boot that comes above your ankle and has a slight heel. To begin with walking boots will do or Wellington boots. Proper riding boots will help with your posture, balance and confidence so after a couple of lessons these are another worthwhile investment.
5) PACE YOURSELF!We’ve all seen the Grand National advertised and watched our formidable EQUESTRIAN TEAM GB compete but riding is a skill that takes years to master. Our instructors are fabulous. Trust them and they will help you progress whilst mastering the basics 1 gait at a time.
6) BE KINDOur horses and ponies are not machines. They have good days and off days, as do we! Ride one a few times then swap over. A skilled rider can team up with many 4 legged partners.
